On 21st August 2001, a simple yet powerful idea was born…
that visual impairment should never mean limited vision for life.
This commitment took form through Snehankit Helpline, and it has endured through the shared clarity of purpose and quiet courage of every founding member and dedicated contributor who has stood behind the mission.
One such visionary, Ms. Parimala Bhatt did not build this NGO from theory.
She built it from lived experience.
A woman who transformed her own lived experience into a lifelong mission of service.
At a time when accessible textbooks, audiobooks, braille material, and assistive technology were scarce, she recognised a gap and chose to fill it with action, compassion, and persistence.
Through her leadership, learning became accessible, independence became achievable, and confidence became possible for thousands of visually impaired children and adults. What began as support soon became empowerment.
Her work has never been loud, but it has been lasting.
Never performative, but deeply purposeful.
Never about recognition, but always about impact.
This post is a simple acknowledgement of a life devoted to service and a sincere expression of gratitude for the pathways she has created, the voices she has amplified, and the futures she has quietly shaped.
With deep respect and gratitude - thank you for showing the way.
This is just the beginning of our #25YearsOfSnehankit journey.
